Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?

The characterization of a person as ‘beautiful’ is often based on some combination of inner beauty, which includes factors such as personality, intelligence, grace, politeness, charisma, integrity, and outer beauty which includes physical attributes that are valued on an aesthetic basis. In this post I will be referring as ‘beauty’ as something strictly physically and aesthetically appealing, leaving aside spectrum of inner beauty. It’s no secret that the perception of beauty goes a little like this – physically a beautiful woman is one with wide hips, round bum, narrow waist, luscious breasts and miles long legs; a handsome man is…

Why go minimalist?

Today as a society we are heavy consumers. So much so that not owning stuff can be socially alienating and somehow can convey an image of weakness and lack of wealth. Or so we are made to think. The real issue isn’t really the amount of stuff we own or buy but rather the mindset of ‘I need this to be … happy, to make people like me, to make my life easier, to make me be accepted’ etc. What do you really need to live comfortably and what do you think you need? As a society, we cling to…

50 things that make me happy.

I believe during this awful time – look at what’s happening around the world – it’s important to find comfort in small things to keep positive, here are 50 little things that make me happy. Coming up with this list was surprisingly harder than I thought it would. I guess that’s rather sad and sort of a red flag, wouldn’t you agree? P.s. That’s a very happy Simona in the photo above from a few summers ago. Grocery shopping and cooking nice meals. The market (for food) and little street markets.  Freshly shaved legs and other bits *;)*. Gigs. Christmas –…

What I like to call ‘the vegan pressure’.

I’m not sure, if this is a ‘thing’ but it’s certainly an observation of mine and I like to refer to it as: ‘the vegan pressure’. Ideally, the whole world would go vegan in one day and we would save animals, this planet and people living on it, however, realistically this isn’t going to happen. I am sick of people referring to vegans as grass eating psychos, because of certain individuals coming across very aggressive towards non-vegans. While I definitely agree with the message, I think Freelee telling people that if they are not vegan deserve to die, is a…

Open your eyes: live below the lie challenge (pt. 1)

Think of a number. A really big number. Multiply that number by million. If the number you got is more than 1.2 billion then congratulations you are part of the more fortunate ones. If it’s less than 1.2 billion then ignorance is bliss, my friend.  1.2 billion that is how many people live on less than a quid a day. Every day. 1.2 billion. Let that soak in. I am a student, so I don’t get to live in luxury. I work, I pay my bills, and I stock up my fridge. I’m very fortunate to have a bit of financial…

Concepts by S is live (ish).

Hello and welcome to Concepts by S. For those, who have read my old blog, this is something new and different. My old blog is no longer active (it’s still live for the time being, but probably not of long). I’ve switched my blogging platforms (WordPress is so confusing at times comparing to BlogSpot) and the whole concept and scope of content that this site will have. I intend this blog to serve two purposes: (1) I want to grow this into a platform for my PR portfolio (graduation is sneaking up on me – this is still in progress) and…
